Chocolate Orange Old Fashioned Cocktail Recipe

Chocolate Orange Old Fashioned

This is a twist on one of the most iconic cocktails of all – the Old Fashioned. Living up to its name, the drink was originally developed in the 1800s but has seen a resurgence of late, no thanks in part to it being the tipple of choice for Don Draper from Mad Men.

This recipe is actually a recreation of a drink that I had during our trip to Italy at a bar in Florence. The addition of freshly squeezed orange juice gives the drink some real freshness and goes nicely with the dark chocolate. You can of course use any whiskey of your choice, I’m currently a big fan of Gentleman Jack as it has a very smooth flavour.

The key to a good Old Fashioned is adding the whiskey slowly, alternating with ice. It must also be stirred, not shaken, as you don’t want the ice to break into small pieces, which would dilute the whiskey.
